ELEVEN additional samples from the ongoing contact tracing on the reactivation case in Malaita have tested negative for covid-19.

Pauline McNeil, permanent secretary for Ministry of Health and Medical Services, confirmed this yesterday at the covid-19 radio talkback show.

“Follow-up from our health personnel, they managed to swab 11 primary contacts of the person and they are all tested negative so can be rest assured that there is no evidence of community transmission and the risk is low.

“Thank you to the families who have come forward and help the health workers to continue their contact tracing and monitoring but at the same time the health workers continue to monitor other, in case there is search on illness like flu, they are on standby to do that work as well,” said McNeil.

She said to date in terms of the number of cases the country record still stands at 18.

“Out of that 18 we still have four accommodated and monitored at our central field hospital (Multi-purpose hall).

“Of that four two from the UK who have been staying for a long period of time and the additional new one from the Philippines third repatriation flight and the reactivation case from the Malaita case.

“For those who have been repatriated from Manila we have picked up three reactivated cases.

“These cases have been previous positive in Manila and negative before the date of they left for Honiara but they are reactivated when testing was done in Honiara.

“This trio did not count on top of the 18 recorded cases in the country,” said McNeil.
