Citizens overseas urged to vaccinate before return

SOLOMON Islands nationals in the United Kingdom, USA and Canada are being encouraged to be vaccinated before their repatriation home.

Prime Minister Manasseh Sogavare in his recent address said the government is aware that there are some Solomon Islands citizens waiting to be repatriated from the UK, USA, and Canada.

“We encourage these citizens to be vaccinated before their repatriation home.

“In this regard the Ministry of Foreign Affairs will be coordinating with our High Commissions, Embassies, and representatives in these countries to ensure our citizens can access vaccinations before their return home,” said Sogavare.

He said the government is meanwhile planning a ‘final’ repatriation flight to bring home about 40 remaining students in Manila.

Sogavare adds, in terms of vaccine for Solomon Islands, approval for AstraZeneca vaccine had been given despite missing out on the Pfizer vaccines for 0.25 percent of the country’s population.

SIMCAP project eyes 2nd phase

BY MAVIS NISHIMURA PODOKOLO THE Solomon Islands Ministry of Environment, Climate Change, Disaster Management and Meteorology Capacity Development Project (SIMCAP) have eyed implementing the second phase of the project. This was disclosed last week during the wrapped up event of its first phase in Honiara. Speaking during the end event Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Environment, Climate Change, Disaster Management and Meteorology (MECDM) Dr Melchior Mataki said the ministry is planning to implement the second potential phase of the project. Tran supports 3 clinics in west Honiara

Namson Tran MEMBER of Parliament for West Honiara Constituency Namson Tran has stepped in to support three clinics with medical supplies as the country faces shortage in medicine. Mr Tran rendered support to three clinics under his constituency including Mbokona, Rove Area Health Centre and White River clinic with medical drugs. Yesterday West Honiara Constituency Constituency Development Officer (CDO) Brain Taupiri officially handed over the drugs to nurses in charge of the three clinics.
